Today I visited Muir Woods, North of San Francisco. As I took the $1.00 map and tour guide from the repository provided, I wondered about the possibilities for something such as “The Answer Tree’ to exist for a visit to the Muir Woods National Monument. So I started exploring the possibility of creating a Google Maps mashup using data from external sources. To create a Geospatial Learning Framework, printed materials can be re-purposed for mobile access. Using a Google Maps mashup on a computer, trigger zones can be created. Some sites where you can go to start trying without coding knowledge include:
Wayfaring and Map Builder
There are also guides on how to make your own web mashups:
Progammable Web: how to make your own web mashup
Google Maps: View, Create, Mashup
This post is online, but a work in progress!!! (Janet made me do it) BTW, If anyone knows more about Google mashups than I do, please leave a comment here and get in touch with me. I am about to board a 15.5 hour flight back to Australia and it would nice to learn more about this when I get home.
Thanks to Adam Moore for posting a link to this presentation given at mLearn 2009 on Twitter at #answertree .
