1. Control your iTunes Library remotely with your iPod Touch using Remote. ![]()
2. Control your Keynote presentation remotely using your iPod Touch and Keynote Remote. ![]()
3. It is more beneficial for your iPods battery if you only charge it 80% and take it off the charger. Constantly charging to 100% can shorten the life of the battery.
4. Want to undo typing?? Easy just shake your iPod (OS 3.0 only)
5. Pressing the home button twice quickly brings up a music menu without escaping the current application
6. Is the QWERTY keyboard too small for you to use. Turn your iPod on the side to get a wider keyboard (some applications excluded)
7. To find a song if you have too many just scroll up past the first song and a search will appear. Alternatively go to the menu screen and press the home button twice slowly to enter search
8. Too many things coming up when you’re searching. Easy, filter your search:
Settings > General > Home > Search Results
9. To restrict the iPod user from accessing certain go Settings > General > Restrictions, then enable the restrictions, enter a password and turn off the things you wish not to be accessed. Note: Explicit filter does not filter content viewed from safari, only content purchased from the iTunes Store
10. The iPod Touch has a 3.5” thermal touch screen, as a result it means that stylus cannot be used and bare skin is needed to operate the iPod successfully. If your hands get too cold or the iPod gets too hot you will not be able to use the iPod properly.
11. Always install operating system (OS) software/firmware updates to help battery life and add in extra features or bug fixes
12. Remove iPod from cover or case when charging as to not overheat the battery and damage the iPod
13. Apple has 1 yr warranty on battery. If battery drops below 50% capacity in that time they will replace the battery or the whole iPod.
14. When you’re scrolling through a long webpage in Safari (or an application), if you tap the bar at the top of your screen where the time is displayed, the app will automatically scroll up to the top.
15. Pressing the home button when in menu will take you straight to the first page. When pressed again it will take you to the search screen (OS 3.0 and above only)
16. When viewing a website in Safari, if you want to check the URL of a link before clicking it, hold your finger on the link and a bubble will appear showing the URL that the link navigates you to.
17. Press the power and home button, simultaneously, to take a screen shot
18. Double space adds “.” and a space.
19. The most screens your iPod can display containing applications is 11 screens for OS 3.0 and above, 9 screens for any OS lower than 3.0, however you can load more applications onto the iPod but if you want to use them you will need to search them in the search screen.
20. Are you getting tired of swiping from side to side to navigate between all your menu slides? Well just tap bottom corner (left or right) of the slide and it will take you to the next slide.
21. At least every third or fourth day reboot/reset the iPod or sync it to iTunes to clean out its 128mb, or 256mb if you are lucky enough to have an iPhone 3GS, of RAM and this will help speed up the device also causing less crashes.
22. There are two ways to reboot the iPod;
Number 1; Hold in the power/sleep button for approx 6 sec until ‘slide to power off’ appears and then slide to power off. Then turn back on by holding the same power/sleep button until the apple logo appears.
Number 2; Hold the power/sleep button and the home button for approx 10 sec, ignoring the ‘slide to power off’ until the apple logo appears. This way can also be used as a hard reset if the iPod locks up on you.
23. Do NOT hold in the home button (on its own) for any longer than 5 seconds, this is meant to completely close the application that is open, however this can cause the iPod to crash and the iPod must then be plugged into iTunes before it can be used again! (The iPod will not crash every time – but when not plugged into power it occurs more frequently)
24. When watching a movie press forward (but don’t release it) and this will make your video fast forward.
25. The Bluetooth in iPod Touch (2nd Gen) and iPhone does not allow audio and video sharing, however with the iPhone it is possible to SMS some audio and other files. There are more and more apps appearing on the iTunes store that do bluetooth photo sharing. One example of this is an application called Bluetooth Photo Share.
26. To reset your iPod touch home screen and re-arrange all of your Apps into alphabetic order, go to settings> general> reset> reset home screen layout
27. An iPod can only be synced to one iTunes. One iTunes can be synced to a whole class set of iPods (approx. 25) However, so that you can transfer music and video from another computer tick “Manually manage music and videos” on the ”Summary” of your iPod in iTunes. Note: This only works if the songs are MP3 and not protected AAC, as iTunes Store account information is stored in the iPod and will not play items from another account.
28. When playing accelerometer games, such as iBowl and Fastlane racing, be careful to hold the iPod securely. Its not a good idea to be throwing your iPod around or into a wall! Apple will charge you a $60 inspection fee and approx. $80-$180 to repair the damage to the iPod, depending on the damage.
29. When using Wi-Fi, if possible, connect the iPod touch into a wireless G router. The Wi-Fi capabilities in the iPod are only wireless 802.11 b/g so using with wireless 802.11 b/g/draft-n may cause a few issues such as dropping in and out or loosing connection completely.
30. When OS 3.0 is loaded on the iPod touch, occasionally the bluetooth will automatically turn on. The bluetooth is always searching and trying to pair to devices so it is best to turn this off to save on battery life. Settings > General > Bluetooth
31. An easy way to organise the order of the Apps on your iPod is selecting the ‘Applications’ tab within the iPod Screen when connected to iTunes. When selecting the applications to sync (on the left hand side) you can change the arrangement (on the right side) for iTunes 9 and above only.
32. With the newest update to both iTunes (version 9) and the Firmware (OS 3.1) peer-to-peer applications are becoming more common. Peer-to-peer applications are when two iPods connect to each other via bluetooth and allow the users to interact with each other. A good example of peer-to-peer games is FS5 Hockey. Being so new, there are still some glitches.
33. You can set your iPod to automatically switch off, especially useful if you are listening to music as you drift off to sleep. Use the Clock timer function as shown here.
